Concept information

Preferred term

education of working children in the Middle East

Definition(s)

  • All countries in the Middle East have ratified the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, and most have laws and policies that mandate at least primary schooling, as well as laws that mandate a minimum age before children can join the labor force. However, there are still millions of working children in the Middle East who have either never enrolled in school or have dropped out of school, with some exceptions related to domestic labor.
