- A study of the community of Framingham, a suburb of Boston, Massachusetts, begun in 1948 and involving over 10,000 individuals. The study has established the importance of social networks in maintaining people's health and as a protective factor in a wide range of diseases, in particular, coronary heart disease (cohort studies; health determinants; social networks analysis; social support).
