Beveridge Scheme

Definition(s)

  • A WIDELY CIRCULATED report commissioned by the British government and named for its author, Sir William Henry Beveridge (1879–1963), the Beveridge Scheme outlined a social assistance plan to reduce poverty in postwar Britain. In spite of its limited implementation, the plan greatly influenced post-World War II British social welfare policy and the development of the modern welfare state.
