Definition(s)

  • The fire of rebellion in the American colonies was fueled in part by British actions such as the hated Townshend Acts (1767), named for the British chancellor of the exchequer, Charles Townshend. One of these acts set duties on imports into the American colonies, including tea from the British East India Company, leading to the 1773 conflagration known as the Boston Tea Party.
