  • The Gun Control Act of 1968 (GCA) is the legal core of national gun policy. Sponsored by Senator Thomas Dodd (D-Conn.) and signed by President Lyndon B. Johnson on October 22, 1968, the legislation prohibits the interstate sale of guns by mail order and severely restricts intrastate mail-order gun sales.
