ozone layer depletion
Definition(s)
- The depletion of the ozone layer in the stratosphere of Earth's atmosphere was an alarming side effect produced by the use of new synthetic chemicals in the late 20th century. Because the ozone layer absorbs incoming ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun, there was great concern about the potential health effects of increased UV exposure.
