hydrostatic equilibrium
Definición
- In the case of a star, hydrostatic equilibrium is the balance in a star between its gravitational force, which is directed inwards, and the outward forces of gas pressure and, especially in the case of very hot stars, radiation pressure. Because, for most of a star's life, these forces balance, the star neither collapses in upon itself nor blows apart.
