- Un type de supernova dont les spectres présentent un déficit de raies d'hydrogène. Sa courbe de lumière présente un maximum net avec une diminution progressive. Les magnitudes typiques MV = -14 à -17. Les vitesses d'éjection d'environ 10 000 km/s. Les supernovae de type I ont plusieurs sous-types: type Ia, type Ib et type Ic.
