- La rotation du plan de polarisation expérimenté par un faisceau de rayonnement linéairement polarisé lorsque le rayonnement passe à travers un matériau contenant un champ magnétique avec une composante dans la direction de propagation. Cet effet se produit dans les régions H II dans lesquelles un champ magnétique provoque un changement dans les ondes polarisées les traversant. Idem à l'effet Faraday.
