It is unstable at room temperature, owing to the incompatibility of the amine nucleophile and the nitrile electrophile. Using radio astronomy, aminoacetonitrile was discovered in the Large Molecule Heimat, a giant gas cloud near the galactic center in the constellation Sagittarius.
