  • Images produced by a process that utilized a distillate of lavender oil dissolved in alcohol as the photosensitive agent; the solution was applied to a well-polished silver plate and the alcohol allowed to evaporate, leaving a white residue; the plate was then exposed in a camera obsura for 7 or 8 hours; invented by Niepce and Daguerre as an improvement over Niepce's heliographic process
